David Byrne Radio

March 29th, 2005 · Comments Off · Music

Via Boing Boing: David Byrne, known most widely as co-founder of the Talking Heads, has just launched an internet radio station that streams the music he digs. Lots of interesting music there. I’m listening to it now.

Home Media Center

March 25th, 2005 · Comments Off · Macintosh

I have my Mac Mini set up and working as a home media center. It’s connected to my TV as the display. I have no keyboard or mouse with it - I’m controlling it with VNC and an ATI Remote Wonder. So far I have remote setups for iTunes, DVD Player, and EyeTV. I can [...]

It’s Time For A Moderate Backlash

March 25th, 2005 · Comments Off · News and Politics

Oliver Willis: You didn’t think you were voting for a government that would decide what the best medical care for you and your family is, and would intervene when it disagreed. But you did. For too long, you’ve been taken in by the conservative movement, when in fact the government was less intrusive, more fiscally [...]

Persistent Vegetative States can and should be use to advance many causes

March 25th, 2005 · 1 Comment · Fun Stuff, News and Politics

I nearly spewed my coffee when I read this item at Boing Boing:

If I am rendered comatose and determined to be in a persistent vegetative state (PVS) for a period longer than one month and if no imminent cure is forthcoming, I do not wish to be kept alive by artificial means including but [...]

New Phone

March 24th, 2005 · Comments Off · Macintosh

Since Cingular bought AT&T Wireless, I decided to switch to one of Cingular’s pricing plans with rollover minutes & free roaming. However, they wouldn’t let me use my old AT&T Sony Ericsson T616 with it. I ended up buying a Motorola V551, which was the nicest reasonably priced Bluetooth phone.
I was able to pair it [...]

Under attack

WorldBeatPlanet is getting hit hard with comment spam. I just got 16 online poker spams from different IP addresses. After I marked the first few, the spam filter has been recognizing & deleting the rest of them.

What about Sun Hudson?

March 23rd, 2005 · 3 Comments · News and Politics

While Bush & congress fight to keep Terri Schiavo alive, despite her being brain dead for 15 years, 6 month old Sun Hudson was allowed to die without a fight when he was taken off life support against his parent’s wishes.

Theme mods

I’ve made a few tweaks to my theme, inspired by some of the entries at Alex King’s WordPress 1.5 Theme Competition. Most notably, the page menu is now at the top of the page.

What The Schiavo Case Is All About

Via Oliver Willis - Like Kryptonite To Stupid:

We have to stop the far religious right and their congressional lackeys (DeLay, Frist & Co.)
because they are destroying America.

A Note on Priorities

Steve Koppelman:
Immediately following the tsunami that killed tens of thousands in December, President Bush issued a statement through his spokespeople from his estate in Crawford, Texas.
In anticipation of Congress passing a bill for the sole purpose of keeping Terri Schiavo on a feeding tube, President Bush cut short a weekend at his Crawford estate and [...]

Terri Schiavo

March 18th, 2005 · Comments Off · News and Politics

I’m completely disgusted by the Terri Schiavo case. This is one of the most offensive instances of the government butting in where it doesn’t belong and turning a family matter into a political cause. The government has no right to be involved in this.

Bluetooth Mice

March 17th, 2005 · Comments Off · Macintosh

I’ve had a Belkin Bluetooth mouse for a while and the only thing I don’t like about it is the very short battery life (about a month or so). Before my trip a few weeks ago, I bought a Targus Bluetooth mini-mouse and I found the battery life is even worse - only two weeks [...]

New Comment Spam

Rock El Casbah

March 12th, 2005 · 2 Comments · Music

Rachid Taha is becoming one of my favorite performers. I just got his new album, Tekitoi (Who Are You?), which has an awesome cover of “Rock the Casbah”. Rachid’s music combines Algerian Rai with electronic, club, & techno beats in one of the best world fusion mixes.

I’m back
