So long and thanks for all the fish

July 31st, 2005 · Comments Off · Macintosh

I’m now sitting in Detroit airport (which doesn’t have free wireless) with a few hours before my flight.
The end of MacHack marks the end of an era. It was a major social networking event as well as a place to learn and share neat tricks. For Mac geeks it’s the years biggest social event, more [...]

The last MacHack

July 30th, 2005 · Comments Off · Macintosh

At the end of tonight’s banquet on the last day of ADHOC/MacHack it was announced that there won’t be any more. Attendance was dropping each year and we had fewer sponsors this year, so at this rate we could no longer sustain it.
This is the end of an era. MacHack is unique - no other [...]

Airport

July 27th, 2005 · 1 Comment · General

I’m now at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood airport waiting for my flight to Detroit for ADHOC. There’s a free public wireless network and I’m getting a very strong signal. It’s also extremely fast. I hope our network at ADHOC will be as good - we’ve had connectivity problems there the last few years.
I just looked at iTunes [...]

Speaking at an anti-gay industry conference, Jerry Falwell endorsed child abuse or forcing kids into so called “reparative therapy” programs to “change” their sexual orientation. This type of therapy has been rejected by the American Academy of Pediatrics as harmful. Along with [...]

Top news

July 25th, 2005 · Comments Off · Local

Today’s top news on TV & papers is Ricky William’s return to the Dolphins, something I couldn’t care less about. They seem to think everyone is a sports fan and is more interested in their team than any other occurrences. I’m not a sports fan because I think it’s a monumental waste of time & [...]

Fire

July 25th, 2005 · Comments Off · Local

There was a fire in the men’s room at the pool over the weekend. It seems to have started in a trashcan. The pool & gym are closed & without electricity. The restroom was completely wrecked, but thankfully it didn’t spread to the rest of the clubhouse, although there was some smoke & water damage. [...]

iSync 2.1 broke my phone sync

July 24th, 2005 · Comments Off · Macintosh

I found that the iSync 2.1 update made me unable to sync my Motorola V551 via Bluetooth, however I was able to regain the ability to sync by completely removing the device both in iSync & Bluetooth setup and re-adding it in both places.

Looking at the stats for my sites, under browsers I see two unusual ones: ‘UofTDB_experiment leehyun@cs.toronto.edu’ and ‘larbin_2.6.3 larbin2.6.3@unspecified.mail’. Does anyone know what they are?

Bubble about to burst?

July 21st, 2005 · Comments Off · Local

On the third Wednesday of each month, we have the screening meeting for prospective buyers. Last night we had 15 people but only two of them are buying units; the rest are leases or roommates. We’ve also seen more leases & roommates than purchases the last few months. This doesn’t look good. We’d like to [...]

Violence OK, Sex Not OK

Nobody seems too concerned about the excessive violence in GTA, yet Hillary & others have their panties in a bunch over some sexual content unlocked by a third-party hack.

Wil Wheaton says Senator Clinton’s time and energy would be better spent investigating Karl Rove, than Carl Johnson.
Does the mod she’s concerned about actually unlock a feature that’s already built into GTA: San Andreas or does it add a new feature that was not originally built into the game? If it’s the second case, [...]
