Roxio Support Nightmare

June 30th, 2006 · Comments Off · Macintosh

Roxio’s support site is one of the worst I’ve ever had to deal with. They make it nearly impossible to contact them.
Yesterday I converted some QuickTime movies to PSP format using Popcorn 2. The conversion was perfect, except the names appeared in Japanese on the PSP.
It seems that I’ve registered at their site under several [...]

I’m getting a Prius

June 28th, 2006 · 1 Comment · General

My Toyota dealer notified me that they finally obtained a Prius for me. Unfortunately it won’t arrive for about 2 weeks. They were able to give me the full details including the VIN and it’s pre-sold to me.

Upgrade Disaster

June 28th, 2006 · Comments Off · Macintosh

When I tried to install the Mac OS X 10.4.7 update on my MacBookPro, the machine froze when the update was almost finished and left the machine unable to boot. When I started up in single user mode, it showed that launchd couldn’t be started which prevented it from booting completely. I ended up doing [...]

Officials say terror suspects lacked the means to match ambitions

June 24th, 2006 · Comments Off · Local

These guys sound more like a lone group of bumbling kooks than an organized terrorist cell. They’re probably harmless, but kooks can be dangerous no matter how inept they are.

Blogging from TextMate

June 23rd, 2006 · Comments Off · Macintosh

I’ve always been a BBEdit user, but TextMate seemed to come out of nowhere and it’s now my favorite text editor. The one feature I miss from BBEdit is the ability to open & save files directly on an FTP server without using an FTP client. Since TextMate plays nicely with [CyberDuck](http://cyberduck.ch/), I can simply [...]

Thoughts on religion

June 19th, 2006 · Comments Off · News and Politics

I don’t believe in god and have a hard time accepting any religion that tells us to accept without questioning what’s written. I’ve been learning more about Buddhism and it’s the only religion that makes any sense to me. It doesn’t tell you what to believe. Instead you’re expected to seek the truth. I would [...]

Stuff I’ve been listening to

June 18th, 2006 · Comments Off · Music

Here’s what I’ve been listening to lately.
Bombay Beats - I’ve been getting into more Indian music, especially Bhangra & Bollywood music. This is a nice collection of Bhangra/hip hop fusion. I’ve also been listening to lots of music by Asha Bhosle.
Raivolution, MC Rai - New rai/dance/hip-hop mixture.
Balkan Beat Box - interesting world fusion.

Orientation, Thione Seck [...]

Trying out eMusic

June 14th, 2006 · Comments Off · Music

I signed up for eMusic’s free trial, which lets me download 20 songs. I’m not sure if I’ll continue when the trial is over. I really like that their downloads are DRM-free MP3s which work perfectly on a Mac and their download manager is Mac-friendly. Unfortunately their selection is pretty limited and I don’t really [...]

First storm of the season

Garrison Keillor’s Take on Bush, Gays, and San Francisco

June 9th, 2006 · Comments Off · News and Politics

Via Street Prophets: Keillor published an op-ed in yesterday’s Baltimore Sun, lamenting the fact that Republicans have sunk so low as to pin all of their election-year hopes on linking Nancy Pelosi to San Francisco (um, that’s where she lives!) and attempting to establish House Speaker Denny Hastert as the Republican poster boy.
Keillor makes a [...]

Toyota Hates Macs

June 7th, 2006 · 1 Comment · Macintosh

Toyota’s website is one of the most Mac-unfriendly sites I’ve used. I was unable to complete either the build-your-own or loan application forms in either Safari or Firefox. The only way I was able to use it was running IE under Parallels.

Hate Amendment Defeated in the Senate

June 7th, 2006 · Comments Off · News and Politics

The Senate voted today to reject an amendment that would have written discrimination into the U.S. Constitution. Republicans had been using this wedge issue in hopes of distracting from their failures and dividing Americans to win elections.
Republicans tried to end debate in order to force a vote on the bill. They failed to get [...]
